As a certificant, you have the opportunity to apply for grants and awards through the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN). These opportunities allow for funding towards certification and recertification, and recognition of outstanding achievements as certificants.
CMSRN Certification Grant
This grant provides funding for exam registration to become CMSRN® certified. Recipients have one year from the date they are notified that they are a grant recipient to take the exam. Applications are open all year or until 12 grants are awarded per calendar year. Apply now.
CMSRN Recertification Grant
This grant provides funding for the CMSRN recertification application fee. Applications are open all year or until 12 grants are awarded per calendar year. Apply now.
CMSRN of Distinction Award
This award requires that applicants:
- Have a minimum four years experience in medical-surgical nursing.
- Are a current CMSRN for at least 24 months.
- May be in a clinical nurse, educator, manager, or administrator role, providing they meet the definition of one whose leadership qualities emulate the highest of professional standards and have improved the practice of medical-surgical nursing.
- Be knowledgeable of the issues related to certification.
- Promote nursing excellence through precepting, mentoring, and encouraging certification.

PRISM Award
The AMSN PRISM Award is co-sponsored by the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) and the Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification Board (MSNCB). PRISM stands for Premier Recognition In the Specialty of Medical-Surgical. It was created at the request of AMSN members who wanted an award to recognize the exemplary practice of medical-surgical units.
